The final beachside event of the year so make the most of the surf, sand and hills! Explore Lake Claremont, Swanbourne Reserve, or take in the coastal panorama from the top of Melon Hill.

Controls will be worth 10, 20 and 30 points which will add a twist to the route planning as you will need to decide if going a little further to chase higher points is worth the reward.

This is a newly mapped area, with the map made by Metro Series Co-ordinator Ricky Thackray. The area provides plenty of variety as it includes bushland with a trail network, urban streets and large park areas in the east. Parking is limited so please carpool if possible and park on the verge along the north side of the park – you may have to walk to get to the start.

Junior TrainingThis year's camp will be held in Bullsbrook from 1 to 3 July.

The Junior Camp is Orienteering WA's major training camp of the year for 10-17 year old orienteers and is held over the July school holidays. Run by our accredited coaches the camp provides for a wide range of orienteering abilities.

This training camp is suitable for young people who enjoy orienteering, want to learn more about it and have a fun time with other young people. The camp is open to anyone aged from 10 to 17 years who


 Metro Series returns 6th January 2018

We wish all orienteers and their families a happy and relaxed break over Christmas and New Year.

The Metro Series starts its second half of the season on Saturday 6th January at Ranford with a scatter event, 5pm mass start. We look forward to seeing you all there you kick off the orienteering year.

National Relay Champs 03A large contingent of West Australian orienteers headed to Bathurst, New South Wales for this highlight of the orienteering year. With seven events in nine days it’s a great festival of Orienteering, including the Australian Schools Championships.

Congratulations to everyone who achieved their goals, from those who made the podium to those who had personally satisfying performance on some complex maps and challenging terrain.

School Sport Team 2017 2 1024x724WA schools team will be heading off to New South Wales to be part of the Australian Orienteering Carnival 2017.

They will be representing Western Australia at the Australian Schools Championship events as well as taking part in the national championship events. The carnival will take in seven events between 23 September and 1 October 2017 near Bathurst and Hill End, NSW.

The team has been training hard and we wish them every success.

Metro Thornlie BraidThe summer orienteering series for 2017 / 2018 program is now available so check the Metro Series page for the list of events or download a copy of the Metro Series brochure.

All Metro series events will be Saturday afternoons for the 2017/2018 Series with registration from 4.15pm and start times from 5pm. Courses will close at 6.15pm.

16th & 17th September 2017

A weekend of high standard orienteering is available for all those wanting to get out and enjoy spring in the WA bush. Two events over the weekend on two classic WA areas so don’t miss out. These event are open to everyone and, while it is a championship standard weekend, if you don’t want to compete in a set class, you can just come along and choose an enter on the day course.

Saturday afternoon head to Jumbuck Hill and enjoy a map that has been recently updated by Alex Tarr. Pre-entry start times are from 1.30pm with enter on the day also available.

There is quite the mixture of terrain with some steep slopes, granite rock features, grass trees and sheoaks. Sometimes you’ll be running other times a steady speed will be called for in different areas of the map.

The WA Long Distance Championships returns to the familiar map of Marginata offering complex navigation with granite rock and a mixture of sheoak and wandoo forests.

This event is open to everyone and, while it is a championship, if you don’t want to compete, you can just come along and choose an enter on the day course. Instructors are available at each event to guide newcomers through the registration process and help you

Swan Valley Ad Centre Sprint Champs 2017 Ricky 2 724x1024The successful 2016 National MTBO carnival in Dwellingup was just the latest in a string of organisational efforts for MTBO that had Ricky as the driving force. Ricky is not just a Australian representative for MTBO he has also been the convenor for WA MTBO since 2008 and is actively involved in mapping and setting events for MTBO, the Metro Series and for Sprint events.
