Event Report: Bush 1 Jorgensen Park

Sunday 5th July 2020 photo Bush 1

At the first event since COVID-19 restrictions were lifted more than 100 people came to the challenging terrain of the overgrown golf course at Jorgensen Park in Kalamunda.

Recent prescribed burns had limited the available bush area but nevertheless course setter Dan Greig skillfully folded the various courses through, across and around the confusing old fairways. The ambitious and energetic orienteers on the H2 course ran a combination of both H3 and H4 courses while those on the easier courses didn't have to go quite so far.  Attendees at the Juniors’ Camp were also present and supervised by many of our coaches.

Health requirements mandated minimal interpersonal contact but pre-entry, social distancing and extra hygiene procedures, organised by Carol Brownlie, seemed well accepted.
Although the weather was ideal, in spite of dire forecasts up to a few days earlier, not all was sunshine and about a third of entrants had their runs either curtailed or prohibited when police cordoned off part of the longer courses area. Entry fees have been refunded to those affected.

Thanks to Jack Dowling for computer operation, both during the event and its preparation in spite of a recent injury, plus Dave, Rosalie and Daisy McCauley, Ken and Helen Post, and Peter and Jenny Komyshan who collected controls.
Results are available here.

Photos from the event, thanks to Rob West, are on our Facebook page.
