• Frazzle

We were lucky with the weather, as there was no rain at the event. This made it easier for orienteers to navigate around the rocks, large and small, farmland and thick bush, explore the tracks, and generally find their way from start to finish.

Nearly 70 intrepid orienteers turned up to the event - some later than others as it is a long drive to Frazzle. There was even a FIFO orienteer: Russell Buchanon flew his plane to and from Frazzle and made use of the air strip there!

Thanks to Simon Windsor, with Noel Schoknecht as controller, who set interesting, and at times physically challenging, courses.

In H1 there was a close battle for first place between father and son Craig and Liam Dufty, with Hadrien Devillepoix hot on their heels. The 'old' man prevailed (perhaps because it was Father’s Day) with Liam relegated to third and Hadrien three seconds ahead of Liam in second. There was another close contest in H2, with Rachel West winning by just 24 seconds over Christopher Drury. The young ones blitzed H3 with Amy Dufty (seen that family name before?) winning by 2 minutes ahead of Archie Brownlie. H4 was quite a physically tough course, but the young ones shone again, with Rohan Braid easily winning, although Quinn Lommers and Ruben Claessens were not too far behind. Jan Fletcher, fresh from international competition, easily won H5. Our fly-in wonder, Russell Buchanan, won M, Fraser Brownie flew around E, and Sheridan Ellery topped it off with a win in VE.

Many thanks to Jack Dowling and Paul Dowling who towed the caravan there (Jack) and back (Paul). Simon towed the toilet. Controls were collected by Riley and Sharon McFarlane, Liam and Craig Dufty, Rachel West, Paul, Tucker Ellery, Rob and Lois West, and Rob Beattie. Richard Matthews provided some valuable XML-related IT support after a little mix up on the SI numbers. Sue Dowling was the organiser.

Finally, and most importantly, we are indebted to the land owners (Sam Burton, Chris Elst and the Blight family) who welcomed us onto such beautiful country.
