Some 34 starters braved the ominous comments about contours and were rewarded with a beautiful autumn morning for a ride in the hills and a coffee and treats at the local markets.
A few hiccups with MapRun and phones were generally overcome and some sleuthing by Ian Dalton has given us more information for future events.
Despite the contours, 8 competitors cleared the map and there were many other high scores. Results can be found on Eventor, as well as a detailed results list.
Sadly, over a third of the competitors ignored the out of bounds area to the north of the markets. This was imposed to avoid potential clashes with vehicles and pedestrians at that event – so far, there have been no repercussions come to light but the risk was high given the chaos that surrounds these market events. Competitors should always comply with these limitations – they are imposed for good reasons and non-compliance is unfair to those who do the right thing.
Thanks to Jack Dowling who mapped and set the event, to Sue Dowling for control checking and support, to Duncan Sullivan for setting up the latest MTBO mapping standards and a compliant event file and to Debbie Mckay for her delicious cakes.
