Yuluma Primary School, Innaloo
The first event for the 2022/23 Metro Season was held at Yuluma Primary School and heavily advertised by Archie (via posters and PA announcements at the School) and on Facebook with many sharing the post. I'll estimate the success of this advertising by how many new faces were present, lots - but the Marketing people can quantify.
With 91 people/groups listed in the results it was a great turnout for a Saturday afternoon of fine, but blustery weather. Feedback to Archie and I, both first-time MetrO setters, was helpful. Some commented about the control at the tennis courts and if they could reach through from the other side. I'm told that on MetrO courses this is permissible - unless we had specified differently. This control may have been easier to understand if our control descriptions did not get muddled up! Again, everyone was understanding. I challenged competitors to work out what happened to the control descriptions, but no-one quite worked it out. I'll say there was some 'slippage'.
Surprisingly, very few people took the routes we expected. Even fewer on the short course took the route we anticipated. I hope this is a sign there was good route choice.
The event would not have happened without the many volunteers who guided us and did many jobs. Thanks to Ken and Carol for the guidance, reminders and lugging gear from the shed. Thanks to Melinda for running registrations and organsing the MetrO series, Tony Simpkins for the new map, Rachel for the newcomers briefing, Sten for teaching us how to sync SI boxes, and the many control collectors: Ken, Helen, Rosalie, Daisy, Tracey, Christine, Brian, Carolyn and Robert B. Last but not least, without our setters there wouldn't be an event so a big thank you goes to Archie and Tom Brownlie who set their first MetrO event.
