Fred Jacoby Park, Mundaring

Fortunately for all, the rain forecast for Wednesday 18th August had finished by the time the Primary Schools Champs at Fred Jacoby Park were held. Over 350 students participated and judging from comments and written feedback from their teachers they thoroughly enjoyed the day and their courses set by Ian Fletcher. Participants could choose to run as individuals in the boys or girls 10 or 11-12 year old age groups or as pairs in either age group. Competition for the winning the school trophy was tight with St Bridget’s narrowly beating Christchurch and Frederick Irwin coming in third. Results for participants can be seen on Eventor.

As with all events of this nature, their success was ensured by a wonderful team of 30 OWA members and friends volunteering their support. Many of them had long, busy days with multiple jobs. Sincere thanks are also due to Schools Sports WA for help with promotion of the event; to the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions for allowing access to the map area and for facilitating the event; and to Healthway, the event sponsor.

Huge thanks go to Jan and Ian Fletcher who once again were the people who made the event happen, managing all the administration, mapping updates and course setting.

Look out for photos on the OWA Facebook page.
