Saturday 23rd January

Mullaloo scene

The MetrO event at Mullaloo was the last of 4 in the Joondalup area.  Weather was certainly different being on the coast in the afternoon - at best described as "a pleasant cool change with a sea breeze" - when sitting/standing around for a while, it was decidedly chilly.  The cricket match that had been set up next to the assembly area caused fewer problems than first anticipated.

Controls had been set out along the beach, and also throughout the parks and housing.  There was plenty of route choice between controls and although many decided to avoid the dry sand on the beach, the beach was enticing and several ended up doing more controls there than planned.  At least all controls were in the right places at this beach.

Ricky Thackray was first back on the Long course, with Rachel West the first female; unsurprisingly Liam Dufty was fastest finisher on the Medium course, with Daisy McCauley finishing as fastest female, though adding in an extra control to be sure of not mispunching; on the Short course, Richard Matthews finished ahead of Ian Fletcher, with Jocelyn Nainby finishing as first female and third overall.

Many thanks to all who helped the event run smoothly: Sarah Richards and Andries Swart were course setters and support club for the day was LOST.
