Saturday 30th JanuaryBibra Lake MetrO 2021

At first sight Bibra Lake is an unlikely prospect for a MetrO event, with the land being strung out around the extensive swampland. However, it provides a variety of terrain and consequently some substantial route choice options. The Short course could be completed entirely in parkland but a well-chosen loop through the bush track network was about 500 m shorter. The shortest option for the Medium course required choosing an efficient route to visit all the controls in the larger bushland area whereas the best Long course option was to choose the straightest possible route through that bushland and do a complete loop of the lake, despite the 1.5 km section that had no controls.

Sten Claessens and Ceri Pass both chose the loop route and were fastest M/F on the Long course. Ruby Phillips was the first female (and third overall) on Medium, with Liam Dufty fastest. Rosalie McCauley was fastest female on the Short course, second overall behind Duncan Sullivan.

Many thanks to all who helped the event run smoothly: Dave and Ricky, with help from Wendy and Tash – on-site arrangements; Rosalie and Melinda – IT; Ceri – novice briefing; Ceri, Kate, John, Jenny, Heike, Sten, Ruben and Daisy – control collection. Ian Fletcher was course setter
