What is orienteering?

Orienteering is a sport for all ages and abilities. Children, adults, families and groups can enjoy some exercise and a fun outdoor challenge, while at the top end of the field elite athletes can race against tough competition up to an international level.

Some may walk, others may run.  There are no fixed rules on how to get round the course - just aim to find the controls in order for your course.

A compass may be of assistance but orienteering is about reading the map and connecting it to the terrain around you.

There are different courses for all abilities and we'll check you're on the most appropriate course before you set off.

The best way to find out more about orienteering is to come along to any event!  As we head into summer, there will be a MetrO event at 5pm most Saturdays from November until March.

If you haven't tried orienteering before, we'll give you some tips before you set off and we'll ensure you know what you're doing before you head out on a course.

So sign up, come along, enjoy yourself in the outdoors and get involved in a fun, healthy activity.
