Training Weekend 3-5th March 2018
OWA is pleased to be hosting Charlotte Watson, an orienteer from the UK who has represented Great Britain at the JWOC and WOC as a visiting coach. This is to provide all our members with the chance to reap the benefits of coaching, some intensive training and ultimately improve their orienteering and enjoyment of the sport.
Charlotte has put together a three day program that will help build and test your sprint orienteering skills.
Registration for this event has now closed.
Mark your calendar for a full long weekend of sprint training on the 3rd, 4th and 5th March.
About me
I am a British orienteer from the Lake District in north-west England. I have spent the last 2 summers living in Australia, and winters back in Europe competing. Before coming to Australia to coach orienteering I was at Edinburgh University studying Sports Science. I have represented Great Britain at both JWOC and WOC, and am currently training for WOC 2018 in Latvia. When I’m not orienteering I enjoy cooking, running, mountain biking, baking, reading, outdoor swimming, travelling and exploring new places
What I’m doing in Australia
This is my second stint in Australia. From September 2016 - May 2017 I was living in Canberra as part of the coach in residence programme. During this time my boyfriend Mark was still finishing university and felt he had missed out on all the fun, so now we are both living in Hobart until April this year. He is doing the coach in residence programme and I am working as a Sporting Schools coach. I have had an awesome time so far in Australia. There are so many places to explore so I’m really excited to come to Western Australia to meet you all.
What to expect from the training weekend
The training weekend is going to be a fast and furious sprint orienteering. Don’t worry, we’ll take things slower to begin with and practice some key skills on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday we’ll put everything we’ve learnt together and have a mini sprint competition. There will be something for everyone of all ages and abilities so feel free to come along.
