StevewithmapOrientShow for Thursday Training

Thursday Training Series, Daglish, Thursday 16th March 2017

Remember Orientshow? The original OrientShow in WA was held in 2008. It is a short distance event where running speed is important, but mapreading skills are absolutely crucial.

Control points are very close together, and you have to make frequent decisions about which one to punch, based on your mapreading.  You are not given either the codes or descriptions of the controls, so you have to interpret the map very carefully!

You are very likely to make mistakes, and punch the wrong control, but all is not lost!  Instead of disqualification, each mispunch incurs a time penalty of 30 seconds.  However, running slowly or stopping to avoid mistakes may not make up for the penalties incurred by the speedsters.

The purpose is to practice sprint orienteering ahead of the NavDash season and the New Zealand events, so you’ll want to go fast!.
