Junior World Orienteering Championships

The Junior World Orienteering Championships (JWOC) commence in Bulgaria today, with two WA brothers – Oscar and Henry McNulty – in the Australian team of 6 boys and 6 girls. Today's event is Sprint Orienteering, followed by Long Distance on Wednesday. Thursday is a rest day, before the Middle Distance qualification races on Friday and Final on Saturday, and the program ends with the Relay event on Sunday 27 July.

This is Oscar’s fourth and final JWOC, but the first (of many we hope) for Henry.

You will be able to follow the events live on the internet from the website http://jwoc2014.bg/index.php?name=livecenter with all races commencing from either 9am or 10am local time (Bulgaria’s time zone is 5 hours behind WA time, so that means 2pm or 3pm). The live coverage includes maps, arena commentator (in English), online results including intermediate radio control times, and live gps tracking for selected competitors.

Oscar's start time in the Sprint today is 11:22am (4:22pm in WA), and Henry starts at 12:04pm (5:04pm WA time). 80 of the competitors (40 men and 40 women) will wear gps tracking devices, and Henry is the only Australian man selected in this group, but two of our girls - Michele Dawson (NSW) and Asha Steer (Vic) will have them. Many of you will remember Marketa Novotna from her stay in WA last year - she is running for the Czech Republic, and her start time is 10:17am (3:17pm WA time), and she has also been selected to wear a tracking device.
