The 2015 WA School Orienteering Championships will be held on Wednesday 17th June, 2015. The venue will be announced soon.
1000 students enjoyed the Be Active 2014 WA School Orienteering Champs at Whiteman Park.
Oustanding performances included 6 minute wins by Joel McMullen (La Salle College) and Jo-anna Maynard (Duncraig SHS) in Boys and Girls 15A, and a 14 minute win by Oliver Martin (Peter Moyes Anglican Community School) running up a year in Boys 16A. The Richards twins, Sarah and Shaun (Quinns Rock PS), were winners in the 11 Years Girls and Boys, while 8 year-old Kate Braid (Leeming PS) beat older competitors to win Girls 10.
Two new schools broke through to win the Champion School Trophy Shields this year. In the Primary competition, reigning champisons St Brigid’s Middle Swan were just pipped by Oberthur Primary School, with Frederick Irwin Anglican School a close 3rd. In just their third year of competition Mercy College grabbed the secondary shield, mainly thanks to their senior girls. Frederick Irwin, with depth in the Pairs and a good 2nd place in Boys 16A by Lewis Dowding, were next, ahead of All Saints College, Quinns Baptist College and Scotch College sharing 3rd place.
