Coogee
The MetrO Series goes South this Saturday to Coogee Beach. Parking is in the Beach car park on the West side of Cockburn Rd, but the event is across the road in the streets and parklands between Cockburn Rd and Rockingham Rd, starting from Len McTaggart Park at 5.00pm.
The MetrO Series is very suitable for beginners, with no previous orienteering experience necessary, and members of the public are welcome at this event. Registration will be open from 4.15pm until the Start at 5.00pm, and there will be a briefing for beginners at approximately 4.30pm. More information for beginners is available at the Urban Event Guide page.
There will be three courses on offer of approximately 2-3km, 5-6km and 7-8km, all with easy navigation, but with a time limit of 75 minutes, before results and presentations at 6.15pm.
Directions:
The nearest Kwinana Freeway exits are Farrington Rd, Berrigan Drive or Beeliar Drive, but routes to Coogee Beach from these are quite complicated. From Farrington, head West to North Lake Rd (3km), turn left and then right at the second traffic lights into Phoenix Rd (after 1.8km). Turn left from Phoenix after 1.6km at the second lights into Stock Rd, then right at the next lights into Spearwood Ave (0.8km), and follow this to Cockburn Rd (2.8km). Turn left and look for the Coogee Beach car park on the right after 1.4km.
From Berrigan Drive, go West for 1.6km to North Lake Rd, turn right and proceed Northwards to the Phoenix Rd lights (3.2km) where you turn left and then follow the directions as above.
From the Armadale Rd/Beeliar Drive freeway exit go West on Beeliar Drive for 6.5km to Stock Rd. Go straight on at the lights, then cross a roundabout at Rockingham Rd into Mayor Rd. Follow this for 1.6km, crossing another roundabout at Hamilton Rd, before arriving at a T junction with Cockburn Rd. Turn right and the Coogee Beach car park is 1.6km on your left.
CAUTION: The event centre is in a park, 200m South of the car park entry, and on the other side of Cockburn Rd. Take extreme care crossing the road!
The nearest stations are Murdoch or Cockburn Central on the Mandurah line - see directions for Farrington Rd or Beeliar Drive if cycling from these. Or take the train from Fremantle and it is a pleasant ride on a coastal path to Coogee.
