Not sure which class to enter at the Kambarang Australian Championships Carnival?
The Middle Distance and Relay are being held at Peterdine Farm, where the terrain is used for sheep grazing, and is open to very open grassy woodland with many treeless areas. Granite rock features, such as boulders, cliffs and bare rock are common, and in some parts quite complex. Visibility is mostly excellent, while linear features include farm tracks, fences and watercourses.
You can see from the Courses and Classes document that the course lengths are very reasonable for this type of terrain.
While A Short classes are not usually required under Orienteering Australia Competition Rules for the Australian Middle Distance Championships and only 21 A Short classes are required for the Australian Relay Championships, we are providing separate Open Age AS classes for Men and Women at the Middle, and a Mixed 35+ AS class at the Relay. These classes will be suitable for experienced orienteers who do not wish to run in their respective A class, and for whom the Open B courses may not present enough of a challenge.
Middle Distance:
- Mens Open A Short, 2.2kms, Hard navigation, 1:7500 scale
- Womens Open A Short, 1.8kms, Hard navigation, 1:7500 scale
Both classes are open to experienced orienteers of any age, ie 16 to 80+.
Relay:
- M/W35-65A Short, 2.3-2.4kms, Hard navigation, 1:7500 scale
Open to any experienced orienteer aged 35 and over. We believe that this class is an excellent alternative to the 21AS, and especially the Mixed Hard and Open B classes which do not score points towards the interstate trophy – State Team Managers take note!
NB There is a full range of AS classes available at the Long Distance Championships, as per OA Rules.
